Gray Cardinal of the Republic of Belarus. Until recently, such a statement itself could seem like complete nonsense, since it was believed by many that the current president, Alexander Lukashenko, gathered a completely controlled team around him. This is a team of Belarusian officials, where, as all this seemed to be an “outside observer”, everyone did only one will - the will of the president, and more than a draw.
However, for some time now the situation in Belarus has changed. This is due to a set of political points by a person who is often called "a real ideologist of the Belarusian multi-vector policy." This person is the Foreign Minister of the Republic Vladimir Makei.
And this is the same policy when at one time it is told about the need to strengthen the Union State with Moscow and about the possibility of seeking financial happiness in relations with Brussels and Washington.
On such a wave in Minsk, words were increasingly being said that they “do not emit any vector”. Like, we need to do business with Russia - we will do business with Russia, offer something Europe or the USA - we can respond to their proposal, China will show interest - they can turn in its direction too. A kind of cosmopolitanism, which in certain circles can be called a much less literary word.
But it is precisely this cosmopolitanism of the Belarusian elites that the political elites of the USA and the EU like so much today. Why? Because they caught those notes that they wanted to catch. Caught and from whom specifically such notes come from. And the threads lead to the mentioned Vladimir Makei, who is at the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more than 7 years.
What is the reason for the increase in the political weight of Makey in the West? There was information about the non-traditional sexual orientation of the official. This orientation allows Makey to freely rotate among European elites, to participate in meetings with Western partners, without even reporting to President Lukashenko. But why, in such a situation, Makei is not removed from office by the president of Belarus?
But the fact is that such a person is beneficial to the president of Belarus as an approximate. It is beneficial primarily as someone who can negotiate with Western "friends" on the subject, for example, of providing loans, opening a particular market for the sale of Belarusian products. Moreover, Lukashenko considers Makei to be a fully controlled official for himself, as he is aware of his indicated orientation. The head of the republic believes that the availability of compromising information can allow him to control the actions of Vladimir Makei and through him try to “taxi” to the European economic harbor in the right “political” weather.
But only the Western elites on Makei, of course, have their own plans. It is reported that about $ 70 million has been allocated through the British PR agency to promote Makei’s political successes. Image makers are working for a European audience so far, emphasizing that this person is much more suitable for the role of President of Belarus than Alexander Lukashenko.
In February of this year, Mackay met with the leadership of the Soros Foundation, as well as with State Department officials on “neutral” territory. According to some reports, the meeting took place in Vienna, the capital of Austria. It is impossible to say for certain which specific topics were discussed at the meeting, but the interesting point is that President Lukashenko did not know about such a meeting between Vladimir Makei and his Western friends.
It is extremely rare to find materials in the European media where they make critical statements about Make. And this is against the background of what sharp arrows of criticism are directed towards Alexander Lukashenko.
It turns out that at the moment a sort of “commissure” has been determined in Minsk. This is when the interests opposite to those that are usually characteristic of Lukashenko advance very actively when using a person who is ready for such an advance in exchange for political and economic loyalty to oneself. And the line of involvement in LGBT makes his biography attractive for those strategists who see Belarus as a territory where a fully controlled political landscape can be formed.
