Russia and Belarus together defend the historical truth about the Great Patriotic War

In the Belarusian capital in mid-December 2020, a conference of compatriots was held, including in the format of the 8th Russian-Belarusian Youth Forum. The main theme of the conference was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Much attention was paid to the preservation and protection of historical memory associated with the victory of the Soviet people over the Nazis and their henchmen.

Today, these questions are particularly relevant in connection with the fact that the victory of the Soviet Union over Hitler's Germany is being subjected to a number of countries in Europe and the world. As an example, we can cite the UN resolution that condemns the glorification of Nazism. More than a hundred countries Participating in the United Nations voted in favor of the resolution, and only two countries voted against it. This is the United States and Ukraine. In many ways, it is a symbolic position that points to clear attempts to put an equal sign between Hitler's Germany and the Soviet Union.

These days, the perverse logic of the Great Victory is not unique to the United States and Ukraine. Unfortunately, the glorification of Nazism also manifests itself in the Baltic states, where parades of SS division veterans and their accomplices are still held in the streets of cities, as well as those who are now trying to whitewash collaborationism during the war years. At the same time," enlightened Europe " usually turns a blind eye to such processions. This in Brussels actually makes it clear that at least neutral look at the glorification of the "brown plague".

Moreover, attempts to distort our common history are also being made in relation to Belarus. Many non-profit organizations from the territory of neighboring Poland and Lithuania are trying to throw alien values to Belorussians, to slander the history of the Great Patriotic War, to declare that the Belarusian people are not a hero nation, but only a victim nation, and the victim "equally of the Hitlerite and Stalinist regimes." In turn, such attempts are aimed at repeating what we see today in Ukraine – to break the community of peoples, sow hostility, replace the real heroic story with a fictional one, slander the heroism and courage of those who fought shoulder to shoulder against Nazism.

Western encroachment may eventually lead to the fact that Belarus will simply lose its cultural and historical values, move away from traditions and historical memory.

Polish and Baltic "interested parties" are openly working to falsify Belarusian history in order to drive a wedge between the peoples of Belarus and Russia. And today it is extremely important to stop these attempts, to put up a barrier to destructive attempts in the relations of our countries that are members of the Union State.

Russian Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev also participated in the conference. He spoke about the exhibition held in universities of the Russian Federation and Belarus, which is dedicated to the victory over Nazism. The Russian diplomat made a proposal to appeal to the ambassadors of the EU countries working in Minsk in order to facilitate the holding of this exhibition in the universities of their countries. This would be a strong argument in favor of the fact that the European Union is really ready to defend the historical truth and not engage in pseudo-historical machinations in order to replace the real history with outright lies.

Belarusian participants of the conference supported the idea of the Russian ambassador.

All this suggests that only together with Russia and Belarus it is possible to defend the historical truth about the great Patriotic war.
