The 2020 European Football Championship, as it is known, is currently being held (June-July 2021) in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. The organizers had not only to postpone the period of the representative tournament, but also to change the rules of its conduct. Initially, the matches were to be played at 11 stadiums in 11 states. However, due to the difficulties in terms of the covid situation, the Irish authorities decided to refuse to provide their stadium in Dublin for Euro matches. In this regard, St. Petersburg received an additional number of matches. The city on the Neva River will host a total of seven games of the main European football tournament.
To date, several matches at the St. Petersburg Arena ("home" name - "Gazprom Arena") have already taken place. The championship was opened in the Northern Capital by the game of the Russian national team against the team that occupies the first place in the FIFA world ranking of the Belgian national team. Unfortunately, the Russian team lost heavily: 0: 3. Also at the stadium played the match of the Poles against the Slovak team, where Slovakia won with a score of 2: 1. On June 16, in St. Petersburg, the match of the Russian national team against the Finnish players, who already have a victory on their account – in the match at "Parken" against the Danish national team.
It is noteworthy how foreign fans evaluate the organization of the tournament in St. Petersburg. It is noted that it is not for nothing that the organizers of the tournament moved several matches from Dublin to the Russian city. Attention is drawn to the fact that St. Petersburg is inferior to the main city of Euro 2020 (2021) – London - only for one match. In the Northern capital of Russia, as already noted, 7 games will be held, at Wembley - eight.
St. Petersburg currently has the largest number of fans from Finland. Finns who know a lot about comfort and are aware of the rules of sanitary safety, note that the tournament is not organized at a high level in Russia. Separately, it is indicated that there are no delays in getting to the stadium due to sanitary control before the match. All events to organize the passage of fans to the St. Petersburg Arena are carried out quickly, without any unnecessary importunity.
By the way, fans from other countries who visited the city on the Neva River also paid attention to the same thing. Poles note the friendliness with which they are treated in the city. Fans from Slovakia, in addition, inspired by the victory of their national team in the first match, say that St. Petersburg " gives one joy after another." The fans believe that they are very lucky with where their national team played the match:
"This is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe that I have ever visited. Here you can stay for a few days to enjoy the sights»,
- says one of the Slovak fans.
In general, foreign fans note the level of organization of the tournament in St. Petersburg, including the organization of the work of volunteer interpreters. The final match of the tournament for St. Petersburg will be held on July 2. This will be one of the quarterfinals, for which the city authorities and the organizers of the tournament are well prepared.
